A Prayer for today:
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,
Last Sunday’s prayer of the day was: Holy God, through your Son you have called us to live faithfully and act courageously. Keep us steadfast in your covenant of Grace, and teach us the wisdom that comes only through Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
While it is only two sentences, this prayer for the third Sunday in Lent is packed with freeing thoughts, with reminders of God’s promises and hope for each day during this uncertain time.
. . . called to live faithfully within community God does not expect us to go it alone, to live self-sufficiently, to be more powerful and stronger than others. We pray to live faithfully, trusting in the promises of Jesus and living together as he modelled, humbly, with compassion, mercy, and love.
. . . and act courageously in difficult times We pray, in situations where we feel lead to step out of our comfort zone (like having a difficult conversation, or responding with care for a stranger), asking that the Holy Spirit will walk with us and guide us, each day, even when we don’t recognize where we are to go or what we are to do.
. . . keep us steadfast in the covenant of your grace when fear appears Praying to be sure, and certain that God’s grace, the gift of Jesus, Word made flesh, surrounds us, redeems us and gives us new life, thus replacing fear with hope.
. . . and teach us the wisdom that comes only through Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. We pray God’s wisdom will empower us to live boldly, with confidence that God’s ways are not our ways and God’s plans are better than we can ask or imagine. The wisdom of the ages is deeply rooted in love, for self, for others and for God only through Jesus Christ Our Lord.
In Christ, Pastor Julianne
